EU equivalents of US things

Materials and metrics cheat-sheet

This is partial and growing list of equivalents for the various US-centric weights, measures and materials that I've found referred to when trying to source materials for the build - primarily for my reference.

Electrical Wiring

ISO10133 requires minimum 1mm² for conductors, or 0.75mm² for wiring internal to the fusepanel or in multi-core cables. Here's my pin-up cheat-sheet.

Materials

• 316 stainless steel is known as A4, 304 is known as A2
• T6061 aluminium is hard to find, T6082 is a replacement and much easier and cheaper to source
• G10 (composite sheets, eg Tufnol 10G/40) has been largely replaced with FR4 (eg Tufnol 10G/41), which is structurally identical but also fire-resistant
• Lexan polycarbonate, a clear UV resistant actylic good for windows, is the same as Makrolon AR2 - Makrolon is by Bayer (DE), Lexan by SABIC (SA)
• Dyneema and Spectra are virtually identical forms of UHMWPE, Dyneema is produced in the EU, Spectra in the US
• Dyneema - SK60 was the original, has been replaced by SK75 for most marine use, SK78 is a more robust version for long-term static loads
• "Amsteel blue" is a particular brand of single-braid SK75 Dyneema core (Amsteel gray is SK60)
• Boatlife Lifecaulk Polysulphide sealant is imported (and expensive), Arbokol 1000 is UK made and cheaper

• 1/2" ≈ 12mm
• 3/8" ≈ 10mm
• 5/16" ≈ 8mm
• 1/4" ≈ 6mm
• 3/16" ≈ 5mm
• 1/8" ≈ 3mm
• 3/32" ≈ 2.5mm
• 1/16" ≈ 1.5mm
